The Navyís newest and most advanced Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Chung-Hoon (DDG 93) is welcomed into her new homeport of Pearl Harbor by a tugboatís water cannon. After the arrival, the shipís crew will prepare for their commissioning ceremony Sept. 18. The ship is named in honor of Rear Adm. Gordon Paie’a Chung-Hoon who was born and raised in Hawaii and awarded the Navy Cross and the Silver Star for gallantry as commanding officer of USS Sigsbee during the Battle of Okinawa. Chung-Hoon was also previously attached to USS Arizona during the Dec. 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor.

PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (June 24, 2008) The Republic of Korea Ship (ROKS) Yang Monchoon (DDH 973) is escorted by a U.S. Navy tugboat as it enters Pearl Harbor prior to the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2008 Exercise. RIMPAC, the worldÕs largest multinational exercise, is scheduled biennially by U.S. Pacific Fleet and takes place in the Hawaiian operating area during June 29 – July 31. PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (June 24, 2008) The Pearl Harbor-based guided-missile cruiser USS Port Royal (CG 73) sits moored as a tugboat assigned to Naval Station (NAVSTA) Pearl Harbor assists Republic of Korea Ship (ROKS) Yang Manchoon (DDH 973) as she prepares to moor outboard of ROKS Munmu the Great (DDH 976) at NAVSTA Pearl Harbor. Yang Manchoon and Munmu the Great are in Pearl Harbor to participate in Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2008. Pearl Harbor, Hawaii (March 31, 2006) – The Sea Based X-Band Radar (SBX 1) departs Pearl Harbor, en route to its homeport in Adak, Alaska in the Aleutian Islands. SBX arrived in Hawaii in January to undergo minor modifications, post-transit maintenance and routine inspections. SBX will provide the nation with ballistic missile tracking and detection and the ability to distinguish a hostile warhead from decoys and countermeasures.
